Title: Making a tree
Post by: aGMuser on October 26, 2008, 07:27:36 am
Okay, it was long time since from my last post here.I'm making a 3D RPG game and I'm doing very well. Now I want to make some trees, but I stuck at the branches. What I want to ask is is there any good method, tutorial or some way for quiclky making all branches at once, or I should make them separate?I don't need hyper-extra-ultra-maximum quality, but it needs to look realistic.

Look into transmaps. Otherwise your mesh count will be High.

What do you mean by transmaps?

Hi aGMuser, take a look here:
http://www.kurtz-fernhout.com/summary_plantstudio.html (http://www.kurtz-fernhout.com/summary_plantstudio.html)
...it's a bit old but it's free and it's fully customizable.

Although it isn't intended to make trees, you can generate a tree-like plant, export it in a 3d format that Anim8or can read and then work on it.

A trans map is a way of adding a fake object without the model. As you are game making I'm not sure to the effect of collisions with your player_object. You could model a simple tube with a transmap applied then give just the base a collision property.

I can't understand you completly.Do you mean exporting several objects(branches) and then putting them into one?And don't worry about the collision - it is fully 2D and the models have nothing related to it.
