Title: need help/unwrapping and texturing
Post by: Indian8or on October 26, 2008, 01:30:07 am
Hi guys,

Can anybody help me in finding right tutorials for learning unwrapping and texturing models in anim8or.

So far, I have made many models in anim8or, but when it comes to texturing I think I have miles to go.

How to unwrap and texture a character precisely?.  Like i have made a pigeon, but now how to apply different textures to its different parts?

sure

you need uv classic or roadkill if you want free. I use uvpro and I can highly recommend it. Thankyou Rax. :)

For Uvclassic  check http://www.biederman.net/joe/tutorials/dbmap/dpmap1.htm

or http://www.uvmapper.com/tutorials/tutorial_classic_win.html (looks a bit complicated to me)

or http://3dstore2.hit.bg/tutorial6/tutorial6.html

http://www.morphography.uk.vu/modtut6.html

check out Mp3d he is god for learning stuff.

Basically:

Check out your eg pidgeon. Decide what parts are going to be radically different coloyrs. EG  eyes, feet, beak,
Apply a material to these parts and name the materials eye beak etc.

Then export as an obj. Exporting in obj will tuirn it into amesh if it is a subdivision object.

OPen it up in uv classic and u should be able to select some of the mesh by material (i hope).

Then decide what geometrical shape it is closet too (eg head is a sphere, chest is a box) and flay the mesh with that in mind.

good luck

Thanks for the tutorial link. I'm going to mess with Gimp tonight, but I'm already checked out Paint.Net 3.0. If you've never checked it out it's pretty cool. It will convert just about any file (.bmp .gif .jpg .png .tif .tiff .tga and .dds (DDS), but no .txt. It has about 5x the functions of Paint and it has plug-ins, and you can get the source code.
