Title: UV Mapper
Post by: lutonprints on September 29, 2008, 03:18:49 pm
I am trying to get to grips with using a UV Mapper.   I have downloaded a tutorial and am, to the best of my ability, following the instructions given, and yet when I download an image and find it in the UV Mapper and try to open it I repeatedly get the message "This OBJ file has no facet information".   I have no idea what this message means.   Obviously I am doing something incorrectly but I don't kno >:(w what.   Can anyone please help.

The mesh must be triangulated before it can be UV mapped.

Thanks Bammann62 for your help but what does "triangulated" mean.   I haven't heard of that before?

Well, faces in anim8or can have many sides to a polygon. When a mesh is triangulated each polygon on the mesh is split into triangles. To be honest, I have no clue why programs are not compatible with non triangular faces...

I am fairly sure anim8or automatically triangulates faces on a 3ds export, so it should be as simple as Export 3ds, Import 3ds, Export Obj.

If not, I am sure there are a few scripts around that may have that operation (Terranim8or also it).

UV mapper doesn't works with triangulated faces, it should also work on objects which are not triangulated. .obj files, which are the files Uvmapper works with, are not triangulated. So that shouldn't be the problem. I have seen this error before, but never found out the problem. Just export the object again to an .obj file and load it in UV-mapper. That worked for me most of the time.

Thanks floyd86.   I have tried a number of times but will keep trying.   If anyone else has any useful suggestions, I would be very grateful.

You need to export your model as a .obj
Object > Export...
Then follow> http://two.xthost.info/AnimAnon/UVMapping%20my%20lizard.pdf
This is a tut I made a while back it should help.

What exactly do you mean by "load model as planer"   I have never heard of this.   Many thanks

Planar, Doug means a  flat map instead of a spherical  or cylindrical map.

Give me a call on skype Mate and I`ll sort you something out  for mapping with a twist

Cheers.
