Not too bad. Looks like the wireframe could be a little messy, but good job otherwise.

Foxy:
Found a couple of half decent pics on the web and used them as ref images. First time
I've had a real go at an organic model. It only took about 2hours to model think it may
take longer than that to texture it.

Nice work there Jason!..... I assume that this is the first time you have attempted edge looping
.... I am impressed!

Perhaps you could do the whole body next?

This may make me sound like an idiot, but what is edge looping?

I've read, and reread a tutorial explaining it, but i've never really taken it in.

Concise please, dumb it down.
Thanks.

Awesome model by the way, can't wait to see it textured.

The edge-looping question has come up numerous times, and I'm certain you can find several instances by searching the forum.  On the other hand, you can find several related references to it on the web.  He's a relatively good one, for instance:  http://www.3dtotal.com/team/Tutorials/edge_loops/edge_loops_01.asp

Thanks Kev. Yep first time edge looping, amazed how easy it is. Just need to learn how to texture a mapped organic form now.
Time is still limited at the min, I managed to model the Predator whilst away at a really boring seminar over the weekend.

Thanks almost cool.
Not coloured it yet but I do plan to add some texture.
As creator mentioned above I will have a go at the body next and see how I get on.
Then I will have a go at reneders and textures ...etc.
Not sure which mapping software to use for best results?????????????

If you want free software, I'd advise lithunwrap 3d.

blenders uv-mapping is pretty good as well.

Thanks guys, I don't mind paying for a good one TBH as my little'un has started using Anim8or so he'll use it.
At the min we use UVMapper and just don't think it's up to the job for these more complex shapes.

What's the best and most user friendly mapper at the min?

I've found This one (http://www.uvlayout.com/) to be amazing but it costs $100.
Though I wouldn't advise it for starting out, since you want to learn the actual technique first.  So I would still advise lithunwrap 3d.  It's free and will teach you the basics.  The great thing about the program compared to the basic UVmapper is that it has a 3d viewer as well where you can see what you're doing, and that's a very important part of the UV mapping process.

The predator model above looks great. It would be good to see the whole thing and with texture. Will you post your progress on it here?

Thanks jonny, I'll post any updates on this thread when there done.
I do plan on completing the rest of the model eventually but I'm determind to complete the self portrait comp on AnimAnon.

It looks really good from the front, but I can spot a few innacuracies from the side...
