Hi. I'm Pairo-Garu and I'm really just a beginner to 3D modeller's and have been teaching myself Anim8or through tutorials and this is a small animation of a gem Spinning around on it's own I made earlier today.

I made a spinning gems, too.  It uses Kubajzz's diamond parameteric script (available on the scripts page) for the gems.  All I really did was rotate them and render a movie :)

Nice render you got there steve, and you to pairo. Only imagine how sweet that would look with global illumination.
Did you used dielectic with IOR 2.5? I should try it out some time.

I think the video uses an IOR of 2.  The correct value for diamond is 2.42 which actually looks a little better.  The shape of a brilliant cut diamond is designed to make it's specific IOR reflect as much light as possible so that's not really surprising.

Yes, global ilumination and expecially caustics would be nice.  It's also up to 10x the computation of ray tracing to do a good job.

Here's a still with IOR=2.42.

I tried out some different values of IOR and some different colors and came up with this render:
I know it spins pretty fast, but I didn't felt anything to change it (ye I know I'm lazy ;D).
IOR of 2.5 for the diamond, 2 for the ruby and 3 for the saphires. Rendering toke all day: 7 hours in total with AA 16. Rendered 48 frames and looped them 5 times. I think the effect in amazing, it's the most realistic movie I ever made that's for sure. Ofcourse don't forget to watch the movie in high quality.

You have better lighting that I used.  It shows the facets off better.
