Title: How important are renderers?
Post by: rellik420 on August 26, 2008, 08:22:56 pm
the only renderer ive used is the 1 on anim8or. ive seen and heard about other renderers. i would download and try them myself but my system req.'s are always to low. if any1 can give and example of the differences that would b perfect. render the image in anim8or, then render it in a different renderer. please reply. i just want my models to be as best they can be.

The big thing I've noticed is many renderers are much faster than anim8or's.  That's one very big advantage.  They also have other cool features like SSS or things like that.  ART is looking pretty good though, it just needs to be sped up a lot.

I would recommend Kerkythea as it doesn't require coding and is very easy to use, as well as having a lot of different rendering methods.
Kerkythea site: http://www.kerkythea.net/joomla/
Rendering Methods: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_tracing_(graphics)#See_also
First one's Anim8or, second is Kerkythea, both Raytraced.

Is there any other ones, I heard of some real time photo renderers but I forgot what they are called, they take ages to render though but it comes out fantastic

TheProducer on CGN is actually writing an article on all the different free standalone renderers.

it isn't finished yet but there was a post on CGN about it.
