Title: Suit of Armor (WIP)
Post by: SpireSF on August 07, 2008, 10:05:30 pm
Meh...I'm new here, and a beginner at anim8or.   Here is a model of a knight/suit of armor I'm working on. I'll be able to animate it and what not once I finish all the parts (I've already attached everything to a skeleton). Any help you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks a lot! :)

looks cool to me 8)

only crit is, i'd just suggest adding some sort of metallic texture, rather than using flat colours, as it looks a bit too plasticky at the moment.  there are some good metal textures at www.cgtextures.com (not to mention zillions of other textures too, it's an awesome site).

Okay, thanks a lot.  One problem though..when I apply the textures, they look transparent in the render...are there any good tutorials for applying normal textures?

What do you mean 'transparent', could you show us some screenshots?

I think your texture might have been applied to the transparent channel or the percentage might have been set to a low value.

Nice suit of armour I must say but i must agree some metalic textures would make the render look better. I don't know how it could be tranparent, but i go with what Tanzim said. Some screenshots would help us out. How long did it take you to make this?

It would also help to just share with us what you have for the various texture settings (Ambient, Diffuse, Specular, etc.).  Either way, a screen shot is like a thousand words.

Oh, yeah, my bad.  When putting on the texture, I used it in all of the boxes...
Are there any ones I shouldn't use it in besides transparency?  I'll post a screenshot if changing it doesn't work.  Thanks a lot!

edit: I think I ended up finding the problem...
Here it is now (I think I may want to go with a darker metal texture, because here it just looks somewhat white)

I just used the image in a texture map..Is this going to cause any problems later on in the process, or did I do the right thing?  Thanks for your help.  Enclosing a screenshot this time  :D

I like the new texture. The model reminds me of my first suit of armour I made good job man.

Ok...I have a few crits of your work. Before I hurt anyones feelings, I must say that this is a very nice looking suit of armour considering your new. Like myself...

Anywho, I'm not sure if your shooting for realism or a more cartoonish style, but I think you should make the feet a little more longer. And perhaps more pointy. Also, make it look like there are joints connecting the feet and leg.

Oh! And it would look cool if you had a coat of arms on his chest plate. :) Thats all this mental person has. :P
