Does this happen when you've applied it to the object, or do you see this in the material sphere?
This usually happens if Anim8or can't find the textures from the directory you give it.

Right so you see it in the material sphere, now when you apply it what does it look like and have you applied it and then rendered it because, I have had a simular problem in the past but then I apllied the black texture.envriro map to the sphere and then rendered it and it turned out to be fine. try that and post back. And to find textures go double click on the enviromap  sphere>textures>enviromap (Load the texture), or bump map, diffuse whatever it works for all

Could you show some screenshot's, realtime and rendered to show us your problem?

To do a screenshot (realtime), press the PrintScreen button on your keyboard, and then paste the image in imaging software such as MS Paint or Photoshop, and then save.

for some reason the environmemt map doesnt show up on the object in real time but i don't care about that just as long as it shows up in the render

Actually, like shadows, that's normal for environment maps...

Your issue seems to be that anim8or can't find the texture that you're trying to apply.  Either you deleted the pathway or moved the file.  So the texture anim8or is trying to load is incorrect  because you don't have the correct texture in or the texture is misplaced and you need to find it again.
Try reloading the texture from its folder.

I have had the same problem, but reloading the textures never worked for me. It just started one day and was over the other day when i bought a new computer. I was using v0.95 back then.
