-
if you did'nt you "convert mesh" after you subdivided, then you double click and set the number below division to 0 and 0 then it will change into the original object
-
thanks dude i was gonna chalk that up as a loss, i get how it works 2.

Please read the manual, search the forums and use Google
-
I don't get what is wrong with posting questions?
i mean - isn't that what the forum is for. and it's quicker than searching through the whole manual.
-
tanzim,no offence, but u really seem to like shouting at people... ???
-
Don't pick on Tanzim for asking you to read the manual and use google first.
Yes, the forum is to ask questions, but it tends to get irritating if people repeatedly ask simple questions that can be answered by reading the manual. The manual is there as a resource for you to learn. If the information you need is in there, other forum members would rather not have to spend their time answering a question that has been asked before or is in the manual. Frankly it's a waste of time and bandwidth.
It may be quicker for you personally to just ask simple questions, but it's very irritating for others.
It's only common courtesy to try to find out yourself first. You should see if you can find the answer in the manual, which could actually be faster than waiting for a reply. Or, search the forums to see if anyone has asked the question before. There are multiple forums as well as archives where your problem may have been addressed already.
Yes, the forum is a good place to ask questions, but not the questions that can be answered by a simple look into the manual, or by searching the web.
That should always be your first step.
rellik: Don't think this post is directed at you, I mean no offense in this, this is in response to many things as well as the questions posted here. It's not directed at you.

Thank you hihosilver.
yetipenguin: I don't mean to shout at people, nor when I'm posting does it seem to me that I'm shouting.
It has just become something of a "standard procedure" for me to tell the same thing to every new member who has posted a simple, and easily answerable questions by looking up the manual or searching a bit.
But I don't say this to every new member, some are just new members that are good at CG/Anim8or and so don't need to be told this.
But how I tell new members to read the manual etc. could be done better.

Well....
Pardon me for weighing into this. Just can't shut my mouth sometimes.
The worst and rudest posts I ever see on forums are made from well meaning members.
And the worst posts I read all suggest the same thing: "Read the manual" or 'Use the search engine".
The ironic thing is that the poster could have answered the questioner's question quite easily but instead tries to make the person who is asking the question feel like a moron.
Tanzim, I'm in with mcheccyb and yetipeguinin here. This is a black and white issue. If you are going to bother posting it should be a positive post. Maybe you could add to monex's post? rather than bleat the aphorism. Please read the manual, search the forums and use Google
Relik: one thing you can try is: select all faces, then detach faces in edit point mode, then go to object mode and copy the new mesh, paste that into a new object.
But what monex said is right. :)
Welcome to anim8or.
If you have any questions ask Hihosilver. he has good brains and is patient and kind.

I have to agree with both of you here ;)
First, yes, it should be gone about in a polite understanding way. Many people are just beginning and are lost. It's nice to have the comfort of the community to help you. Still, if every simple question is answered without any fuss and everything is held in, the user will never learn for the future and will continually ask every little question instead of searching a bit themselves.
So I do feel it's ok to ask simple questions in the beginning. For some people 3d can be a very difficult concepts and has many more difficult concepts within it. Still, I feel they should be encouraged to read the manual and use google and the search function. It's almost like a mother's roll. She prepares the child for the world then lets them out. Of course it's an extremely simplified version of this analogy. Help should be given politely in the beginning, but an urging to try to find things out on your own should be given as well. Of course there will always be good complicated questions that we can have lovely discussions about ;)
-
Then it's settled, I'll be more polite to new members (I never realized it was so hard for them, I didn't start going to the forums until I had been using Anim8or for a year by which time I had learnt a lot about CG, I realized they probably started a lot earlier).
Sorry to any new members that had to put up with that (unless it really helped you :D)
-
reading the manual is still a good idea though, ill try it sometime
-
In my opinion that should be the first thing you ever do. It helped me immensely.
-
I printed it out and carried it everywhere for two months. I even read it sometimes.
-
oops... my bad ;D
didn't mean to start a serious conversation.
