Title: Fading an object in and out of a video
Post by: frtnocker on July 24, 2008, 03:04:15 pm
Hey!

so i'm making a video, and i'm trying to make certain objects fade in and out of scenes, kinda like a ghost appearing and disapearing gradually.  I can only get things to appear abruptly at present.  do you guys have any suggestions or solutions?

thanks!

there might b an ASL script for it, but if u wanna do it manually u might have 2 make a bunch of morph targets with a bunch of textures, im sure it will b a pain in the ass but it will get the job done.

the only simple way to do it is in post-production.  i'd advise you to have two copies of the scene, identical except that one of them has the ghost object in, and the other doesn't.  render both, put them both in a video editor, and use a crossfade transition effect to make the ghost appear/disappear.  Microsoft Movie Maker will do the job if you're running windows xp or higher.  or rather than copying the scene and deleting the ghost from one copy, you could just render once, switch the visibility of the object, then render the same scene again.  you'd get the same results.

a green-screen effect might do the job, but it would still require dual renders, and it wouldn't look as smooth.
