Well take a cube and press convert to mesh.select all the points except on one face.then uvmap the remaining plane with the a ref image,and trans map with a greyscale version.fyew :o

Alternately on the planes material just change the Trans value to a lower level, but either method works.

Have you read the manual, searched the forums and used Google?
That way is a lot faster.
