Animated textures
« on: June 22, 2008, 01:28:09 pm »

It would be very neat to have a script for animated textures, like from a folder where you only specify the name (like frame) and the files (frame1, frame2 etc) would be loaded automatically loaded, with the option to loop or not (explosions, non looping, animated normalmap for water, looping)

or a packed square texture with all the frames in it should also be a possibility, that way animated materials with a animation tab in the material property window would be possible (the animation tab should have, framerate slider, and perhaps the ability to assign animated textures to effect slots like animated bump/transparancy/self illumination etc

would be neat :D

There is such a tool.  It's called Terranim8or.
You can find it Here.
Here is a short tutorial how how to do it: http://www.biederman.net/leslie/terranim8or/how_to.htm#videobkg

I believe you have to download version 6.6.1 instead of version 7 though.  I'm not completely sure though.

The biggest problem I find with your suggestion (it has been suggested by others, including myself) is that it would take up a large part of your RAM to have that many textures loaded, and the loading time for a file would be very high.

Yeah, It would be great to have animated textures that didn't require hundreds of pictures to be loaded into anim8or. It's too impractical. It kills comps, and takes away the ability to edit that object. what if you were just going to rotoscope a vid and delete the background later? An Avi or a gif would be more convinient...

Actually I agree with funk dude. I think anim8or should be more things intergrated into it's GUI so that you don't need to go to it externally.

definitely....

I think this is the third time this has been brought up.......For a good reason...

This may be one of the most important additions to anim8or since the raytracer.

....That and IK......and motion blur...but i know IK is already being worked on.
