Art render bug
« on: June 17, 2008, 06:23:13 am »

I don't know if this has been reported of not, but when I render in Art, most of the time objects with textures on them will render funny. The textures on the objects will be blured or scaled in various parts.

If no one knows what I'm talking about I can show a few examples.

Starbuck, can you post and example or two?  And the .an8 project (or at least the material specs?)

Oh, so it was reported. woopsydaisy

Here is a simple render of a crate in Art.

Now here is the same scene with scanline renderer.

Edit: I forgot, I left the materials exactly how they are at default exept for the texture maps and and I set the attributes too specular/reflection.

This same bug always happens every time I use texture maps in my scene.

I just had the same experience.
Rendered with scanline the textures are ok.

Rendered with ART, the textures shift and like on the curled page the back of the page should be plain cream color.

Though ART renders the colors much better, the pages are supposed to look cream as opposed to white with scanline.

Neither render has any special effects attached to them, just plain textures and straightforward renders.

Starbuck, can you send me the .an8 project for your box?  It's probably the simplest of these.  Something is obviously screwed up but I can't find it in my tests.

lynn22, are you using two sided materials on the cover page of your book?  ART doesn't support two sided materials.  If you could send me the .an8 project for this, too.

kreator, while I'm at it, can you send me your's too?  Especially the box.  The texture coords are really whacky on it!  Hopefully these ar eall the same problem but you never know.

Thanks for the files, kreator and lynn22.  I can reproduce both of your problems with textures.  I've already fixed the shadows in that lights won't cast shadows unless you set them to do so.

I found the problem.  I had forgotten to set the texture coordinates in one case so the ones from another face behind the visible one were being used.  Will be fixed in the next update.

Thanks for the examples, everyone.  I used all 3 to help find the cause.

lynn22, unfortunately the front cover sheet still shows through to the back.   This is becasue ART only uses the front side of a two sided surface.  I'm not sure how I'll handle this but I'm looking into a fix.

Steve, good to hear that you were able to solve the important problem.

As for the two-sided page I might get around it with a very thin cube instead of just one face of a cube. I'll then have two distinct faces; top for front page and bottom for the reverse.

I'll let you know if it works. ;)
