Some stuff i made.
« on: May 23, 2008, 09:00:45 am »

Hi!

I have been using anim8or seriously for like, a year.

I know that I'm not a pro. But I'll post some stuff anyway.

Please give a comment on how to make anything better, or if something needs changing :)

Just a little scene i made:

A Tikka T3 rifle w. scope:

Cannon :D

They all look good - however you really should turn on anti-aliasing for your renders.

Rubick's Cube - the stickers should cover more of the faces.

The rifle really looks excellent.

On the cannon, the muzzle flash at the front would be better accomplished with a transparency/emissive map.

Very nice work. :)

i agree that they want some antialiasing, and i can't help thinking the cannon's muzzle flash looks like a sea anemone (i have a strange mind, don't i?!!), but otherwise very good!  keep it up :)

Thank's for the reply :D

I don't think i will do anything with the cannon. because it was just a 15 minute project to make time pass..

This headset took me about 3.5 - 4 hours. and i think it was worth it :D

You have some very nice models here with some good materials as well.
Let me repeat what others have said though:  You really should use antialiasing on your renders.  It will clean up the jagged lines and give you much higher quality renders.

Great work, especially the rifle and headphone.  I do have some crits though, on top of what others have said:

Desk scene: You shouldn't be able to see the label on the inside of the pill bottle.  This could be fixed by either changing the position of the bottle so you can't see inside it, or (better) giving it a double-sided texture, the inside texture being the colour of the bottle without the label.  Also, the lamp base and shade is a bit too low poly.  Maybe consider subdividing.

Rifle: Great work, nice materials, excellent model.  I don't know if the timber backdrop is an object or a background, but if it is an object, I would re-render the scene with soft shadows falling on the timber, which would place the rifle physically "there".  At the moment it kinda looks disconnected from the tabletop on which it rests.

Cannon:  For a quick project it is quite good.  The flash from the muzzle does indeed look like an anemone, maybe useful if you ever do an underwater scene!

Headphones:  Lovely work, again great materials.  Maybe a little more lighting to show off the textures of the ear pads and microphone cover would be good, and again I would consider subdividing the ear phone shells.  They look a little steppy, which detracts from an otherwise excellent model.  Without those steps, this could be a photograph.

Great work!  I particularly like your attention to detail and sensitivity to textures and materials.  Keep posting, it's good stuff!

...y'know, Finding Nemo 2 or something... heheh 8)

anyways, i agree with ensoniq on the headphone scene, i especially like the way you did the padding on the bits around the ears.  is that  bump map?  whatever it is, it's very convincing!

I tried to subdivide the model. but it turned out crap, and i don't want to redo the whole "ear piece" because it took me ages.

anyways.. combined the two scenes and made a wire with mini-jacks

Enjoy.:

The render came out pretty good :D

Looks nice. I like the headphones with the wires and plugs, they really turned out good. If you want to make your model smoother, there are other ways then subdividing your model. If you dubble click on you object you can change the smooth angle of the object. 1 is not smooth it looks just like the solid wire frame and 180 is the smoothes. It doesn't make a great difference but it could be just enough to do the job.

I like the most recent scene.  As a crit, you need to get rid of the texture stretching on the table!
Also, have you experimented with the v0.97 ART raytracer?  It can do wonders for your renders and create very beautiful images!

Fixed the texture, and no. i haven't tried it yet. I'll get at it right away :) probably post a new render tomorrow.

>Dosser

It actually took me some time. i made some cylinders, cut them into smaller pieces, and used a modifier to bend them. then i copied it and put one of the same right next to it (because the wire is double), and at last i put all the pieces together

if you want to make a wire like that in the future there is an easier way!

start by drawing a curved spline in whatever shape you want the wire to be bent in. then goto: Build>primitives>N-gon set a value of about 60. draw a circle the size you want the diameter of the wire to be. then select the circle and go to: Build>Extrude and for the axis select "path" can use whatever you want on the other settings and then click OK. the final step is to click on the curved spline. you should have a wire like object. remember that if you want it to look better you should manipulate the points on the Z axis before you extrude the circle.

sounds good b3dman, but isn't a 60-sided cylinder a little high-poly for a thin wire?
