Possible Stupid Question #5 Saving Project Files
« on: February 11, 2024, 12:10:13 pm »

In the "File" menu I have 3 "Save" options, "Save", "Save As", and "Save All".

"Save As" I use when creating a new project. I have a baseline project file with materials I like to use and a single basic object. I open that file and "Save As" to the new project title. Got it. No problem.

Now, what is the difference between "Save" and "Save All"? Am I saving the whole project with the "Save" or do I need to do a "Save All"? I sometimes switch between objects without saving before switching to a different object. Am I going to lose work like that? Note: I don't use the autosave feature because some of my project files can get pretty big and a file save can take upwards of half a minute or longer. Murphy's Law predicts that the auto file save action is always going to activate when I am doing some really intricate work and therefor DO NOT want to have to suddenly pause. Bleeping aggravating!

i'm not 100% certain, but i think 'Save All' is for when you've got multiple project files open within the same instance of Anim8or, and it acts on all open files simultaneously.  if you've only got 1 file open then 'Save All' would have exactly the same effect as 'Save'

Save - saves the active project in it's origional file.
Save As - saves the active project in a different file than it's origional one.
Save All - saves all projects open in Anim8or in their origional files.

Thank you Steve and @thecolclough. I thought that was the case but wanted to be absolutely certain. I am a devote of the KISS principle and try very hard to only have a single project open at a time.
