facets & output formats
« on: April 21, 2008, 12:05:15 pm »

I'm a new user of anim8or and I was wondering if there is any way to change the number of facets used in the models.  I'd like to do everything using triangular facets and I was wondering if that was possible.  I would also like to know if there is any other file format that models can be exported as besides .an8.  Thanks for your help!

First off, since it appears you haven't as yet, I suggest you read the manual.  In general, if you model things correctly, quad (4-point) polys are the proper modeling style.  However, using tris (3-point polys) can help to correct for improper modeling, because each such poly produces a plane, whereas improperly constructed quads do not.

In answer to your question, if you start with a quad-modeled object, you can easily convert it to all tris by exporting it as a .3DS file.  You can also import .3DS models.

Hope this helps...

To export your models go, "Object>Export..."  choose your filetype and save.

Obj format is also available.

If you want to triangulate inside Anim8or,I wrote such a script:
