"Hideable" Parts
« on: December 29, 2020, 05:31:15 pm »

Apparently, the commercial quality models such as are sold on the Daz 3D site (and, one suspects, on other sites) have parts which can be hidden or otherwise are selectably viewable. I'm still wrapping my head around making parts of a model poseable so when the wonderful storyteller for whom I am learning to model mentioned having some parts visible some of the time it frankly sort of gave me a headache.

Do you know what he is talking about? More importantly, is there a way that you good folks know to construct a model such that parts of it can be displayed or not displayed when readying a scene for render? The guy I working with is a true visual artist. Before he started telling stories with his web comic he was (and still is) a very good photographer. Some of his work has an effect that can legitimately described as being visceral. Me? I do not even think in visual terms. I just have always enjoyed making things. I once had a model of the STNG enterprise raise over $2,000 in a raffle at a ST convention. For me the fun is in figuring out how to make something - or torturing electrons into making something that LOOKS like something. Anim8or lets me play around with what looks like solid objects on the screen.
