Welding
« on: April 20, 2008, 12:43:50 pm »

This may seem like kind of a nooby question, but I've heard the term "welding" a lot in tutorials, but no tutorial to show how to do it. So, here's the question: What is welding, and how do I do it?

weld, as a general term means attaching two or more objects together. usually done with a welding iron, or one of those flame thrower thingys if it's metal.

i'm not sure if it has some other cg/3d meaning so i assume it means the above.

though i think i means more than just joining solids, moreactually attaching points from two objects.

That's what I thought, that maybe there was a "weld" tool that I couldn't find somewhere, or if they actually meant something like bridge, fill holes, or join solids.

I have always understood it to mean, in Anim8or terms "merge points"

Wielding is the same as merge points, in Anim8or's case. It won't have the same exact behavior or control as other applications in those tutorials, but it's easy to figure it out.

Also, instead of welding sometimes it's easier to just delete all but one of the vertices you want welded and make new edges connecting to it instead.
