Combing 2 shapes
« on: October 01, 2019, 10:38:14 pm »

Hello everyone,
An anim8or beginner here.
Lets say I have some extruded text or thin cube(neither of which have an initial curvature) and I want to attach/combine it to the curvature of lets say a cylinder shape. I want my text to have the same shape/curvature as what I'm attaching it to.  If anyone could just outline the steps you would follow to do
this I would really appreciate it. And just to make it perhaps a little bit different what about attaching it to a sphere.
Thanks for any pointers you could offer,
stephen

If you mean something like as attached...
Well it's possible(for me)...but not always depending on how complex the model is...
What I mean is that there is no straight foward way of doing that...it's like you are trying to simulate physics(wrapping cloth/mesh over the other)

Hello kevin,

Yes that's what I would like do. I've been experimenting with the warp modifier using
bend, twist etc. with a cylinder and some extruded text but I've really got nothing
to work like you've shown. I can't even get the text to the proper curative of the
cylinder:( :). Any suggestions you have would be must welcome. How did you construct your example?
Best,
stephen

Hello Kevin,

Thanks so much for posting this. But as a beginner I really could use an explanation of your workflow. A tutorial would be amazing! :) But I would be happy with some guidance to get from start to finish.
Thanks for lending a helping hand.
Best,
stephen

Hello again Kevin,

Thank you so very much for going to the trouble of making a video of your technique. Now I get it! It's a real pain being a beginner :(
I do find it somewhat disappointing that anim8or doesn't have a built-in tool to do something that you'd think would be somewhat commonplace. On the other hand I would much rather have an illusion than nothing at all:)
Very best,
stephen

You're welcome... 8) well anim8or is pretty cool cause there are many other illusions you can do...you just have to experiment...
