How did you find Anim8or?
« on: April 11, 2008, 05:37:56 am »

Hello everyone. i was just thinking to myself this morning how did everyone else on the forum find Anim8or (By accident, heard it on the web, read it from a book etc...) I found it by accident searching for "animation" on the web and it pooped up and catched me (I have been hooked ever since), so post away. becuase there are may other animation programs (Blender, Byrce 5 and 6, K3D), there is something about anim8or that makes it special (It's easy to use, has many special functions, ART Ray Tacer! So the general question is "How did you find anim8or?"

I used to use Corel Dream 3D as a modeller, but it lacked animation capability.  However, I made animations from it using a tedious, painstaking stop-motion technique.  My brother was horrified to discover how long it took to make a short animation (often upwards of 100 hours operator time for 15 seconds of video) and did a quick Google search for animation packages.  Anim8or appeared to him to be the one with amazing capability (as testified by the Gallery) but with a less steep learning curve than some of the other packages available.  He sent me the link, and two weeks later I sent him the first video I made, this one:
.  Since then I have checked out some of the others, and although some have greater capability, I still love the simplicity of the Anim8or workspace and love trying to find the limits of its capabilities (haven't done it yet!).  Also, the Anim8or user community is a fantastic bunch.  We few, we happy few, we band of brothers...

I think I wanted to do some 3D modelling to insert into any future games I write. Checked Wikipedia and found a 'comparison of 3D modelling programs' one, then looked at the best of the free ones.

Can't remember why I picked anim8or, maybe I just got lazy and it was the top of the list (alphabetical order FTW), but it had what I needed, so why not? :D

I was looking for tutorials on how to add cg to "live video" and came across one called 'how to make traveling mattes' with wax 2.0, which uses anim8or for the modeling.

hasn't this already been done? oh well, at first i started when my sister's boyfriend recommended it to me, but at first it seemed a bit...complicated, then i tried blender, and that was even worse, so i stopped using them for a while until i found a small section about modeling on a games website (forgotten the site's name)
anim8or was apparantly the cheapest and easiest to use, so i tried it, and as spicy said, "I have been hooked ever since"

I took a Saturday Academy class in gamemaker because I felt it could be interesting to make a game.  It turned out not to really be my thing, I enjoy art more than problem solving, though I still love them both.  So, I got home from the gamemaker class and was searching for 'sprites' on google when I stumbled across anim8or.  I then read the entire manual and played around with the tools, and I've been using anim8or, and dabbled in other programs since.  (that was around 3 years ago.)

Same here, after messing about with Dark Basic and gamemaker for some years, I recently searched for some new texture tiles for a platform style downhill mountain bike game I am making with GM phsyics and found this fantastic Anim8or.

Yeah ... Ive had experience with Wax 2.0 and DarkBASIC. In fact, the old game i was creating was programmed using an engine a friend in America designed for me :P Thank god for The Adventure Maker trhough! Im useless at programming ...

I got hold of anim8or by putting in free 3d modelling software into goodle (or something like tht) n it came up with Anim8or as the first thing :P

I used quite a few previous modelling software before tho, however didnt have much luck lol (AC3D, Blender, etc)

I tried to make a game like Tomb Raider once actually haha  :D wat a delluded disastrous project tht was tehe

Anim8ors great :) i have Amapi, Carrara 5 and Bryce 5 (great software!) but i havent learned them, because im so used to anim8or :) Its efficient (well, with the exception of a few things like the renderer lol) and so easy to use :):)

Me, I wanted to do a 3D game  :P, in a forum, we told me that I need a modelor.  Blender, they said. I saw that it was verry complicated, just with pictures.  After, they put the name "Anim8or".  I tryed it, and it was my level.

Well I've been doing some modeling with autoCAD and 3d max in uni. I really liked it and googled for some similar app to work at home. When I came accros this website I was literally stunned by the size of Anim8or. Everything is kept so simple - amazing.
Oh, and I had some experience with the blender.. To be more precise - a few minutes. I downloaded it, installed it, had a look what's on the menu, clicked some buttons and threw it away. :) Not sure why, but I didn't like it at all.:P

Blender doesn't appeal to many people, it's just so complicated, and almost impossible to get your head around even the most basic of functions, but apparantly after you've learnt all of the shortcut keys, you can model extremely quickly, that's what i've heard

I found Anim8or out of boredom, you see I was doing an assignment for science (goanna's) :(, and stumbled across a site where some students had made reptile models using Anim8or, being bored I clicked on the link to Anim8or, 3 years later here I am typing this post :)

Well about a year ago I found out that one of my teachers had made a game with gamemaker. So I asked him about gamemaker and he gave me gamemaker, blender, and 4d Blue. Blender and 4d blue were too hard for me so I just worked with gamemaker. Then around Augest I was looking through the gamemaker resources and found anim8or :D
And a few months later here I am
