Tutorial for good textures anywhere?
« on: April 08, 2008, 12:09:51 am »

g'day all,
I am trying to improve my modelling skills, but my textures just plain suck. They just don't look right, the important features are too 'washed out' (don't really stand out enough) and minor (nearly invisible in GIMP) patterns on large flat areas stand out too much.

The Joan of arc tutorial doesn't really go into textures, where are there some good texturing guides?

Here's what seems to be a decent tutorial.  I don't know of any amazing tutorials that teach texturing, though I'm sure there are some out there.  For that, I'd advise google.
Still, Ben Mathis is an amazing artist and has a plethora of great tutorials that should be helpful.  Really if I were you I'd just follow tutorials on texturing realistically.  Since texturing is so universal (there's nothing special about texturing for anim8or different from other programs) there should be tons of great tutorials out there that will teach you whatever you wish to know.
One thing I personally advise is using actual images and the clone tool.  Those are my weapons of choice, oh, and blending layers is also very important.

Have you tried Genetica or MapZone for making textures?

I second that, Ben Mathis is an inspirational 3d artist and as hihosilver rightly says is an amazing one.
His peryite dragon is just awesome and was in the pc & xbox360 game Oblivion.
Highly reccomend a visit to www.poopinmymouth.com
