Two questions about the F8ce plugin.
« on: May 15, 2015, 10:43:47 pm »

1. The breasts I get. Those would be visible under clothes. But when you set the gender value to 0, it makes this jagged lump where his crotch would be.

Why? That's just something you have to fix when you give him clothes.

2. What human has legs like this? They look like they belong on some alien hound.

If the plugin doesn't match your standards, you can give Makehuman a shot.

It says it won't work on windows. If there's a way to work around that or I just read it wrong, how big is the download? My internet should be fixed tomorrow.

Also, for morph targets and rigging, is there an easy way to select all the right points on the face? It's hard to tell the lips apart in wire frame view, and I'm not sure how to select the points for the jaw without the skin getting in the way.

Cool, thanks. I'll download it tomorrow night. (Or tonight if we decide not to go to church tomorrow.)

Can it make cartoon/anime characters, or just photo realistic humans?

Already downloaded it. No, it doesn't help with anime characters. Particularly the eyes.

Overall, not bad. Designed by perverts, but not bad. Could use more variety in clothes and hair, though.

But I can't get it to work right with Anim8or. Beyond exporting the whole figure as a .obj file, which has some problems.

Would it help to download Blender? And if so, what does it do that Anim8or doesn't, and what's the download size?

.Obj files should load no problem in Anim8or. Just what kind of problems are you having?

As for Blender, well, that's a commitment. The very basics of 3D modeling and animation is the same, but the implementation is very different from Anim8or. There's a higher learning curve, but Blender is more powerful than Anim8or in nearly all areas. Anim8or is better for beginners. If you're serious about having a future in 3D (professional/studio), you should start learning Blender or one of the commercial (read:expensive) 3D suites like 3ds Max, Lightwave, Maya, or Cinema4D. If you're not so serious, just sit back and enjoy whatever works for you.

The Blender installer is about 63 MB

Definitely sounds like it would be worth a shot. And it's a pretty easy download.

As for the MakeHuman .obj files, it doesn't let me use the prebuilt skeleton since it's just a .obj file, it comes with all the material's transparency values set to 0, and the eye textures are set in a way that makes them look like the aliens from Invasion of the Body Snatchers, so I have to figure out how to set the texture to the right size and position without it being stretched or smeared.

Also, I was looking forward to using the built in MakeWalk and MakeClothes programs. Another reason to get Blender.

 Hey there BladeMan.EXE

Would just like to say, welcome to Anim8or. The easiest program for learning the ins, outs and roundabouts of 3d modelling and animation.
Have used makehuman, awesome thing for what it is. Absolutely. Cant really fault it.
Have seen most impressive stuff done with makehuman and blender. Absolutely awesome. Comparible/equal with top notch,

Wishing you the best in future endeavours, and would like to quote raxxs' post because its so very true.

But i also would like to add. With a mix and mash of this and that, some ingenuity here and there, and stickability to what works well for you, great things are possible, no matter what...

So far, Blender looks incredibly powerful and versatile, and just as confusing as Anim8or was when I first started. :D Looking forward to trying out the prebuilt game engine.

You know where I can find tutorials for it that aren't videos? My older brother is spending the next few nights downloading an 11gig game on the Wii U.

I'd suggest googling for written tutorials specific to what you want to accomplish. Blender's website has tons of documentation as well.

This site seems to have a few: http://cgi.tutsplus.com/categories/blender

I saw a few there that caught my eye, but they were videos.

But I did find a free wikibook that looks like it covers everything.

In a sense, that's a good thing. Blender is an inexhaustible source of ideas and features for Anim8or to borrow and adapt. And what's more, the implementation sources are in plain sight =)

Stick the script file in the same folder anim8or is located in. Anim8or will recognize all files of that type within that folder.
