My New Graphics Card

Here is a picture of my new graphics card.


Actually, I just bought a Radeon HD 4550 on Ebay to replace the HD 2400 that I recently bought without realizing it was old-fashioned PCI rather than PCI-Express (I didn't even know you could still get those). I haven't gotten the HD 4550 yet, but I hope it will be an improvement. In the mean time, I thought it would be fun to invent a card of my own design with Anim8or. I made no particular effort to make it realistic, but I guess it is sort of close; my five year old daughter was able to correctly identify it as "one of those electrical things that goes inside a computer."

try render again with more lighting and "Ambient Occlusion"!!

Neirao: I will try your suggestion. The ART ray tracer often doesn't agree with my computer system (outdated) or my modeling style (ridiculously high-poly), but I do love ambient occlusion. I will post that render soon.

HIGH POLY? Geez what is the poly count on this thing :P
I usually end up in the million of polys at the end of project (excluding 'sketches' or rough concepts).

That looks great!  Do video cards really have that big sort of heat sink on them? And what about that blue area... Am not quite sure I should be tearing into my PCs to see for myself...

Cooldude234: 116,000 faces on this one in particular-- not so high. But I do sometimes construct scenes that overtax my old computer, especially when using ART with shadows and a lot of AA samples. I guess the real reason that I don't like to use the ray tracer is because I haven't figured out how to get really good results with it.

Arik_the_Red: Glad you like it. It isn't supposed to be an accurate representation of a video card--more like an exaggeration. The blue thing is supposed to be a fan.

It's an GTX 760 OC edition with a twin frozr cooling system by msi.

Though I'm thinking of upgrading to a 960/970 and selling this one to a friend.
If I go insane enough I might even try and SLI config this time around.
