very nice!  just add a baby version of the lamp, and a bouncy ball, and you'll be well on your way to winning an Oscar 8)

looks really cool ronald, i'm sure it was a pain to model!! I think the only issue I see is that the IS a reflection on the floor, but no specularity or gloss to put the reflection in context. Not sure if I know of any surfaces where you see a reflection but light doesn't bounce off of them... I see the slight glow but it seems that at that distance, it would be much brighter and more defined on the floor. just a  thought

I was not happy with the reflection in this render for several reasons. As you mentioned, the material of the tabletop (it was supposed to be a table) does not look glossy enough to support a sharp reflection. However, increasing the specularity interfered with the shadows in a way that did not look natural, so it was a trade-off. I will tweak the material settings and try another render. It's a fake reflection anyway, so I can only do so much with it. Thanks for your input.
