Doodling
« on: May 29, 2014, 03:03:07 am »

Alright, figured I'd start exercising my creative muscles, they've been sitting in the muck for a little too long. This topic is for my art that doesn't really qualify as a "project" by itself, but rather more for exercise and practice. Or other random stuff.

First up, a dinosaur/monster/toy thing that I've had sitting around the back of the brain for a while. I made a rough sketch, created a vector version, and then modeled and textured it. I wanted to go for that "painted" texture look, and I think I got kind of close. Low poly, no real target triangle count at 934 triangles, just wanted something that was easy to make that still loaded easily in the web browser ;)

I tried it with my Google Nexus phone, works a little slow but still fun especially when full screen.

You have to tap onto a part of the web page in order to get out of the viewer's focus, then you can do whatever with the rest of the website. Tap back in to interact with it again.

Anthony44, thanks, I'm using the Anim8or 3D Viewer that I implemented into the forum software. The viewer uses Three.js and a custom .an8 file loader, along with a basic Three.js scene implementation.

CrashDrive, glad you like it :)

Well, what's next is a generic kitty that I designed and started modeling a while back. Finished it up, the result is below. Granted, the texturing is pretty awful, but I'm movin' along ;) 610 triangles by itself, it was for a mobile game concept that never got past the planning phase. The eyes and mouth can be texture animated individually.

Next will be something a bit higher res...

Here's something I made for a mobile game that is now on developmental hiatus:

Thanks neirao, I used 3D-Coat to unwrap it and touch up the textures, and Paint Tool SAI to paint the textures.

I'm currently familiarizing myself with sculpting in 3D-Coat, which is an awesome voxel sculpting program along the lines of ZBrush. I still use Anim8or for polygonal modeling and touch-ups.

Belated thanks for the kind comments ;)

I haven't done any digital art in a long time, but I'm currently on the last 18 hours of a game jam and had the opportunity to do some actual animation in Anim8or. Here's a basic render of the star of the game, I'm calling him Fiz. I'll post more later.
