Notice: Forum Upgraded
« on: August 11, 2013, 11:40:45 pm »

Greetings,

As you guys may have guessed, the site got hacked a couple of days ago. I am fairly sure that the database was not compromised, but to be safe please change your password at your earliest convenience.

The forum has just been upgraded, so you may notice some changes both subtle and obvious. If you run into any problems, let us know.

Thanks!

At Last, an upgrade to the latest SMF. But still requires some security questions adding instead of the original registration as presently shown which will still leave the forum open to abuse.

I would also like to see attachments inline on the message as opposed to the current scenario, where its at the bottom of the message, this can be done with a mod called "Attachments in Message" http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1179 and also a simple Video embedder, http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2681

Glad to see that I can use the new Curve theme now in my Profile.

YAY thanks steve (and raxx)!

P.S. Is it just me or is the font bigger? (and how do we get back our old smiles?)

kreator, I added a security question, but it's likely the few spammers who make it past our anti-spam mods and captcha are human. Those mods are doing a very good job right now ;) As for mod requests based on convenience, well, those types of mods may trickle in over time.

Blick Fang, you can always use the Authentication Reminder to reset your password.

cooldude234, the theme is basically a remade one to fit the new forum software, so there are some subtle differences. Also, these are the same smiley icons as before. Which ones are you missing?

New
Old

I like the old ones better, they were just more simplistic in style and I liked them.
Also is there a way to edit the theme to make the fonts slightly smaller? (I am sure they were smaller, I can't see as many topics on one page without zooming out which causes unwanted visuals to appear)

EDIT: and now they look like this

I don't know if the font is larger. It looks the same as usual. It might be other factors that cause less space. You could try the Curve theme.

As for smileys, how about the robin set made long ago by user Helenbaq? ;D

[edit] I changed it so that you can pick out your favorite smiley set via your profile settings under Look and Layout. The default will be the Robin smiley set, at least until the poll results make it clear which one is favored by the majority.

 Hey there Raxx  :)
Was just wondering about this 'hacker' thing, and changing passwords.
I've changed my password, but also, would it be a good idea to start 'loging out' when leaving?.
I got no idea about hackers, but i've got the 'stay logged in forever' boxes ticked, and don't bother logging in or out. Would that make it easier for hackers to hack, by 'leaving the door open'. (so to speak).
Thats probly a hilarious question to some people,  :D, but my ignorance does make me wonder. ?   :)

Hey johnar, the only worry with staying logged in is that someone could get on your computer, open your browser, and be able to do stuff in your name here on the forums. The way the forum keeps you logged in is that it stores cookies in your browser that tell the forum who you are whenever you visit this site. There's no back door into the inner workings of the forum from there.

So to answer your question, it wouldn't make any difference whether you stayed logged in or not ;)

Cool. Thanks for clarifying that. I'm ok because no-one else has access to this computer.
 Another question.

Its about emitcons. . I know that little winking face just there is not an actual emitcon, i think, but is it ok to do that. Its hosted off site and is about 9kb in size.
I did actually vote on my fav emitcon style, but is it acceptable to post these little things?

Made them smaller:

The wink is now only 4.5 kb. Unanimated ones are only around the 1kb region.  If its ok i wouldn't mind putting them in a zip file for anyone to download over in the WIP threads.?
Still got some more to do....

Hi Kreator. I've got 3 so far, but am working on more. Had a go at decent transparent backgrounds, but better results just copying the background colour for its intended purpose. So, i've just realised An8 forum has grey posts and white posts alternately, so have done 2 copies of each. 1 grey, 1 white. So to put one with this post i need to choose the grey  background again.
Am still playing with them a bit,   but let me know the 'RGB's of the background colours where you'll be using them, and i'll render some out forya.

Hi Johnar!... very nice cool smiley , on our existing one, his spexs are animated they glisten...background depending on what theme a user is using however as most users never really bother to amend anything it usually points to a default assigned by the administrator of the forum.(I`m using curve theme on this site as its a lot nicer!) Our default on posts is white (they do not alternate)

wink smiley now installed on anim8orworld.com thank you

New here and to modeling totally. Thus far ALL programs are smarter than me so we shall see if my mushy brain will take grasp of the program...LOL

Your forum is great I love SMF software and have used it myself with all our forums since forever.

There is a great mod called StopSpammer that is very useful in catching the spammers and banning them. We would have tons of them if not for this mod and httpBL mod.

Is there ever going to be a  black or charcoal theme to choose...for these old eyes that light backgrounds make them hurt?
