Anim8or and Windows 8
« on: March 01, 2013, 01:15:25 am »

Hello all.

Is Anim8or compatible with Windows 8? I got a fancy new laptop and want to know...sadly only Windows 8 was available. I need to know so I can continue to run with 8 or download and install Windows 7.

Thanks!

No idea, you may be the first to try it!  Give it a shot with the compatibility settings used to make it run on W7 and see what happens (and let us know).

PLEASE do try it!
Windows 8 had a major change, not just in the gui but also under the hood. I doubt anim8or is going to be compatible with windows 8 but if it is, then there is still hope(-ish) for microsoft.
I'm hoping my software that I am developing is compatible with windows 8, but sadly I'm 98 percent sure that it isn't. It's kinda funny because it's compatible with linux, windows (xp - 7), and mac all in the same build (you can run it portable on any machine, you don't need a separate version for each os).

Anim8or runs fine on Windows 8 Pro here, without changing any compatibility settings..

That's not to say anyone else might not have issues with it of course.

The only issue is I don't think I bought Pro? What's the difference?

Not much - just some security and sharing differences: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-za/windows/compare

It should run just fine on the regular Windows 8!

So it works with Windows 8 pretty well. :D
I'm happy to report that I can also render in widescreen (as my previous computer was ANCIENT and could not see the entire image).

So hooray!

Yup also grateful that you were able to test it out.
Maybe when I make a public release of the new cre8or I can get people to try it on windows 8 (highly doubt it will work though, but 100% sure).

Thank you. There's an occasional hiccup here and there, but it's far from incompatible.

The scene isn't done yet. Now that I have a computer that can actually handle HD and widescreen renders, I'm rebuilding all my previous models...including higher poly counts and texture resolutions.

It's for a game project I'm working on, but to get the word out and scout some possible crew help I'm making a comic version of the story and will be posting it online. Once I have the site up I'll be sure to share it with the Anim8or community.  :)

ClassicTyler:

To keep your start screen a bit tidy, I've made a higher quality Anim8or icon to use for the windows 8 Anim8or 'tile':

http://www.anim8or.com/smf/index.php?topic=4515.0

You can use a program called Oblytile (http://oblytile.en.softonic.com/) to customize your start screen tiles.
