Come on Steven, Update Anim8or plz... :(
« on: September 02, 2012, 03:23:34 am »

Hello, i don't know how to start, actually i tried a couple of 3d software package, AC3D, Blender, Deled3D, but nothing seem
good like Anim8or for creating lifeforms creature, the only obstacle that pushing me away is how unstable anim8or with vista, now with my new windows 7,
it's been always crashed, the selecting rectangle have strip buggy look, that made it like it's outdated software, this very sad actually, i always hope anim8or will
get strong update to fix compatibly issues with windows os, i still believe even nowday, i tried to learn the other softwares, but nothing come with simple interface like anim8or has, but come on, from 2007 till 2012 and windows 8 coming soon, and still anim8or not even worked good with vista/7  :-\ ? why that long delay ?

I'm not asking for new features, or a function to make the next toy story with ease, all i ask a good stable update that fix anim8or bugs to work like normal for vista , windows7 or 8, that's all I'm begging for, i been quite for full year actually with hope anim8or will get an update soon in 2012.

i hate to download virtual emulator or to play with my computer registry just to make it work, and still the strip rectangle select look odd..

if anim8or is declined, why not making it an open source, perhaps community can regular fix the issues with compatibly problems..
to be honest, i don't mind to donate or even to suggest for Steven to make anim8or a commercial software, it's great 3d software for many indies, im sure not
only me who like anim8or and wish it's get update, perhaps making a kickstarter if the money  might help to refresh and improve anim8or again  :'(.

sorry for my bad English, who agree with me ? ???

Change your compatibility settings to run Anim8or in Windows XP mode and with 'Disable desktop composition' ticked and your compatibility problems should be resolved in most instances, including the screen artifacts issue.

I agree Anim8or seems to work just fine on W7. Don't know about Vista though, but can try the compatibility for XP to see if that helps solve your stability issues, and yes I would also hope that Anim8or gets a face lift too.

Windows vista was so evil with anim8or even i put compatibly with XP, i keep getting crash problem when i try to animate my models, it might due to my intel graphic card, but my new windows 7 has nividia graphics card (Geforce 650)

again, I'm bit shocked for inactive updates with anim8or :(

Yeah, I really wish Steve would just pass the torch if he's not interested anymore. If he's still working on it, its not at a pace to keep the community engaged. A lot of great modelers fell away in the transition to modern operating systems.

Anim8or needs to be rebuilt from the ground up almost, I think he's said as much.  But I can imagine doing that would be a daunting task for anyone, especially if its just in someone's free time. I don't expect a free program like this to evolve too quickly from a one man show like Steve, but a lot of people have either moved on or came to a halt. Why not expand and work with people who understand the simplicity of this program?

You right, i been pushed away for 2 years when i was a vista users to other 3d softwares, the only reason for me to like anim8or before was because gamemaker relay on it for creating 3d games, also a user name saijee (fromsoysauce) made a decent stuff with anim8or/gamemaker which lead to a lot inspiration for many users included me, also now many 3d game engines and tools came around with reliable cost, anim8or have a great chance to revive to fill their needs, it's not the users fault for the inactivity, it's more of his dodgy way it's work with our current os and the lack of updates/news..

if it's declined, i see no logical reason to not releasing the source, perhaps it can rebuild and improve by the community effort, when Steve has no interest.

Why start a flame war? :)
The reason for us making various thoughts is that we basically don't hear from him often... we don't have any news from him, that's why we are quite worried.
But hey, don't worry.  I use to check his profile once or twice a month: "Steve, administrator. Last active: Yesterday at 07:39:11 am." He looks at least just a little bit interested to me ;) Believe me, I am a developer myself, and I have felt lots of times the need to cease development for an indefinite period of time. Awful feeling for sure. But when I care about a project, I never forget it: "Hmm, I have to take a look at X". When I don't really care about one, I completely forget about it [as many times has happened :( see 'supertux3d' for an example - I'm so sorry for dumping you sik0fewl :'(]. If I can somehow warm up your morale, that's what I know: He still cares, and he won't ever forget.

cello95: don't worry, the reason i wrote that topic was because my care and love of what Steve had made (anim8or) and i really appreciated his effort and i can't thanks him enough, we just sad to see anim8or became inactive and died slowly just like that, many free software became inactive naturally and seem people just forgot it, we hate to see anim8or to became one of them, of course we love to see Steve support for anim8or advancement, we also understand if he don't have time or he had lost the interest to continue, we suggesting at least to make anim8or open source, perhaps someone who have dedication and interest might help to refresh anim8or developments with community support, we are not ungrateful for what Steve had made, anim8or may be not advanced like blender for making high quality cg movies, but i see anim8or a great tool for creating lowpoly models in game development field, and im sure if it's continue to flourish again, people will recomand it again for that field, game development field.
