« on: December 14, 2011, 09:32:54 pm »

This is and old project that I had left unfinished...So, these last days I went back to it and finished it

All done in anim8or, with the exception of a few AE fx.

Wow!
Quite impressive showcase of what can be done in Anim8or. I watched it without prior reading description, and during it I wondered how much of the work was done in Anim8or.

My crits for future works are:

- I liked the idea of basing plot on the song lyrics.

- Grass could be blended better in the forest scenes. I can say that adding more emissive instead of diffuse, transparency like 0.5-0.7 helps blending a lot. Grass planes didn't look good viewed from the top. You might have spent 4-8 times more polys to make grass clumps like these (that would look good from any direction)):

- Camera movements and turns in canyon were too rapid in some moments, but I liked a lot smooth zoom on the mountain.

- When she's running to meet with the dragon walk cycle seems to be a bit too stiff for such a fast run.

The only things that were done out of anim8or were some of the rain and the dragon's fire, other than that, everything was anim8or.

I know, I should have spent I little more time in editing the video, some of the scenes didn't blend in too well, but to be honest I kind of rushed the whole project a bit. I started this in 2008, and left it unfished for almost 2 years, that was really bugging me, so I went back and finished it.

Also my computer was not helping either, so slow, I sticked most of the time with the first render, even if it didn't came out too good, some of it I was able to fix while editing, other things came through and couldn't quite be fixed, those were some of the things you pointed out...

The grass...XD the grass really looks bad when looking at it from the top, almost droped those entire scenes, but i needed them to end the song...

Paulo there are some classic scenes ni  that, the trees at the end, the clouds, the rain, the dragon's entrance, the long shots on the  hill.

Hats off to you! You've done anim8or proud.

I loved every minute of that... absolutely fantastic!  As previously mentioned there are a number of things that could be improved, but to be honest I would consider it almost churlish to mention them in this case.  Perfect modelling and keyframing alone does not make a great animation, far more important is creativity and artistry.  You have demonstrated a good eye for cinematography and 'directorship', some of the scenes in this animation are truly breathtaking in their dynamicism and scope.  To be honest, I kinda liked that the scenes were still clearly CGI, they had a game-like quality that worked very well with the soundtrack.

Thanks for posting this, it is great to see some 'complete' work being turned out by Anim8or and its very talented fans.  Well done mate, very nice work.

  • Couldn't ever use Blender or Maya. Anim8or's good.

That was quite awesome, definetly goes as one of the best complete Anim8or shorts I've seen so far! Definetly noticed a couple improvements that could be made, but as ENSONIQ said, it would only detract. Nice work, hoping to see more like this out of the rest of the community!
