Environment panoramas
« on: March 20, 2008, 05:23:12 pm »

It seems environmental background images, like the image panorama setting, no longer render with ART, nor are these background images reflected in objects with anim8or or glossyreflector attributes.  Hopefully this is an easy fix, Steve, and not a big issue.

Image backgrounds are problematic.  They don't extend beyong the visible background.  Reflections that don't intersect the image would have to be a constant color.  Cube map environments would work OK however.  I'll fix this.

I understand.  If cube maps will reflect that would be excellent.  Will it be possible for the camera to render the panoramic background as a background, without reflections, as in Scanline?  At the moment panoramic backgrounds are entirely ignored by the camera, and the background reverts to the background flat colour.

It seems to me that reflections don't work with textures, which is a bit dissapointing.  I tried creating a 'glossy' sphere with the default 'checkers' texture, and it rendered as a 'glossy' sphere with only the default white.  Do you plan to enable textures as well with these shaders?

Edit:  You answered that in another post.  I was trying a glossyreflection instead of just the anim8or class's glossy or reflection.  Though could glossyreflection possibly have textures as well?

Yes, I'll be adding diffuse textures to glossyreflection, as well as bumpmaps and probebly a couple of others.  Its a lot of code to write and test for all these cases so it may take a while.  I wanted to get something out for people to play with instead of waiting until it was all done :-)

That sounds great!
I'm very glad you let something out so we didn't have to wait.  This has gotten me all giddy ;)
