What got you started?
« on: August 26, 2010, 09:12:00 pm »

hi everyone, my name's Evan, I haven't been to this site in a long time. However this program is what got me started in Digital Sculpting ever since Toy Story 1 came out about 14 years ago. Now i'm learning so much more from college and friend's i've met and taught myself.
See if you can remember what got you started in this hobby or career path and post a reply. This will help keep that motivation even when your imagination goes blank. Keep Sculpting!!!!

I've always loved animating. ever since I started writing and making all kinds of stories, I had always dreamed of making movies of them and always wanting an animation program.  I had been taking Engineering classes, working with other 3D programs, and now I found Anim8or!

dead or alive is 1 of my favorite games of all time.

what got me into 3d stuff is "man... i could do that." so i tried. ive always been interested in art and animation. the only bad thing is i really wasnt that good at it. i started doing little flash animations and enjoyed that. so i moved on to 3d. and enjoy this even more. i want to work in some kind of media form. video games movies tv and whatnot. i do realize in any type of art you have to be the best of the best to get anywhere (and im certainly not even close to the "best") but u never know what can happen. hard work usually pays off.

Well, I had always been interested in 3D modeling, but I had no clue what it really was. Then one day I came across this program. (No idea how) I downloaded it and was hooked instantly. I haven't stopped since.

That was May 25th, 2008.

One day, about five (I think) years ago, I got a brainfart of an idea (which is still blowing around in things I do).... and did a google-search for "free 3D animation software". It brought me to anim8or.com .

I saw this pic...

...and this one...

...and decided I wanted to learn 3D stuff... Though I've been slow to take it all on, and am still a long way from anywhere in particular, I've been messing about with anim8or (mostly anim8or) for 3D stuff ever since.

The time I saw Shrek. It was the first animated movie I remember seeing, and it got me started on wanting to do animation. I was about 6 or 7, and I came around this program Cosmic Blobs, which is for who knows what. But I couldn't get the hang of Anim8or, so I waited a couple years and here I am, with still a ways to go.

I've always wanted to make and animate in 3d since I was twelve years old. It was my passion for video games that got my interest in it. I've been using Anim8or for almost two years now and it has become my favorite hobby. Hopefully in the future, it will become my job to do what I love.

I've had a slight iterest in building models and textures for various games over the years. My first ever 3D modeling was in Sim City Gold, making buildings. Through games I learned some, but very little, about how they are made. Then I ran across a spaceflight sim called Orbiter that absolutely demanded modding in order to use it, and led me to Anim8or. Since then I've left making game stuff and moved to animation. That was well over a year ago now.

Just replace that with almost 3 years and it is exactly my story and hopes. :)

I've always been very interested in animation and video games which naturally led me to try and recreate what I loved.
When I was about 12 I think I googled (like someone else) "free 3d animation software" and Anim8or popped up first! problem was I couldn't understand it so gave up for about 2 years, came back around 14 and started using it more, doing the tutorials and trying things out.

But then AGAIN I stopped using it for half a year til I saw an interesting interview with profesionall animator Tyson Ibele which completely renewed my interest in the program, and from then to now have been using it and hope to use what i've learned when I get a full time job
(Im first year of college now on interactive media thanks to Anim8or :D)

I kind of remember more now, I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote my first post in here. :P

I have always loved video games, especially 3D. And I played GeneRally (a free, 3D PC racing game) like crazy, so I got kind of interested in 3D then. That was about 2006-ish.

I was 11 when I first started, and Googled "Free 3D modeler" because that's all I knew to call it. Anim8or was on the first page of results, and the rest weren't truly...free. So I tinkered around with it for a while until I got good.

I used to make tons of stuff for Celestia (free 3D space sim). Since I wanted to make models for things other than asteroids, I found Anim8or through the Celestia Motherlode. At first I only used it for modeling spacecraft and other things because I couldn't figure out how to animate anything. After discovering my materials looked better in Anim8or than in Celestia, I started making things using only Anim8or. After a few years using it, I've figured out easy/advanced atmospheres, fireballs, and other effects.
