My Life: College/Internship!
« on: May 11, 2010, 02:05:49 am »

It's been a while since I updated anyone in the community on my happenings lately, so I figured since some big things in my life have been happening I'd update everyone!

College
So college was the first big happening and probably the biggest!  I applied to about 6 colleges and god into 4.  It took forever but I finally found out about financial aid and decided on USC!  I was accepted to the Animation/Digital Art program in the School of Cinematic Arts (which is just got a new building, from money donated by George Lucas!)  So next fall I'll begin my formal education in Animation/Digital Art!  I got to visit the campus and USC (especially the school of cinematic arts) is amazing!  The facilities they have are mindblowing, the connections invaluable and the social atmosphere tons of fun.  I'm so excited for it, and can't wait to finally be free!   ;D

Internship
My second big happening began last Friday, and continued today.  Over the past month or so, while at school I've been working on lining up a senior project (unpaid internship wherever I can get one, and is approved by a committee.)  As a senior at my school, I get the last month of school off for a Senior Project that I line up.  I pestered and pestered and pressed, gave out my website and finally got an internship with my first choice, Bent Image Lab!!!  Today was my second day there and it's amazing.  I'm working with the CG department (as they do stop-motion, compositing, CG, etc.)  It's amazing to be working by professionals and watch them work on commercials and things that everyone will see on TV!
If you want to read more about this, I have a public blog here!

If you have any questions feel free to ask!  I'm just so excited to be in this position right now with so many opportunities and my whole life ahead of me!
Thanks for listening to me ramble a bit.

Best,
Hihosilver

Thanks to all you guys!  I'll see if I can post any of my work here.  They're very strict about letting things out.  I had to sign an agreement that I wouldn't take any pictures, reveal any projects, etc.  So I have to be careful what I show and talk about!
Congrats Floyd!  I hope so too, and it's good to hear you've been enjoying it!

Congrats to Hihosilver! Even if I was a bit late. :P
Hope you have a marvelous time in college. :D
Shall we be seeing your name in some big movies soon?

That is awesome dude - Never give up! I've been busy on the weekends doing video for two different companies. Last night I shot video at a martial arts comp. You have to stand on the side of the rink and hope you don't get hit. LOL! When it was my time to get up there they had two hefty dudes. It was a knock out - a kick to the head followed up by a punch in the head and down he went. One of the video companies I made a simple animation of their logo and they now use it at the beginning of the dvd's they make. And now that I work for another one, I'm just going to make one and give it to them and see what they say.

Rock on!

Very nice to see you are pursuing a career in what you like! It's great to see another respected member of the Anim8or community using what they have learned with Anim8or to continue on to the big work! I wish you all of luck & hope to still see you around here ;) I'm sure it'll be awesome!

 Way to go Hiho, :D,
Have been away for a wee while, and when i saw you'd posted this, just had to say congrats and wish you luck.
Up Up and away. (well, not literally away. I'm sure you'll stick around here, even when you are famous). ;).
Maybe i'll see you in NZ one day, working with Peter Jackson at Weta Workshop. :D
Make sure you look me up if you do come over this way :)
 Nice one.

Thanks you guys, that means a lot!  I'm sure I'll still stick around.  My work from now on may not be so much in Anim8or anymore sadly, but I can easily say this program got me to where I am!

It's probably been a year or more since I looked at this forum but something drew me here today and there it was, the news of your going to USC. I had to log in and wish you well along with offering congratulations. My only time at USC was as a computer service engineer during the early 80's. I'm glad to see you stuck with it. I hope to be entertained by one of your movies someday.
