Hello, I want to make a 3D Model of a Mudokon from Abe's Oddysee. Any techniques I should use to make it?

my favourite style is point to point modeling. what ive been doing is make a side view 1st. basically drawing the outline. then ill extrude the edges out and shape the face. it probly takes a while longer but i think u get great control over it.
