Help with texturing
« on: February 23, 2008, 01:41:57 am »

Hey guys,

I have been using anim8or for about 3 years, and I have loved every minute of it. I am now getting into more complex and detailed models and just using the materials editor is not enough to texture my models. I would like to learn how to make texture maps for my models, but I am completly lost. I have no idea where to start. Any help. Are there any free programs out there that would be good to start with. Tutorials..?

Thanks alot!

Get yourself a copy of UVMapper Classic (free)
Load your model in *.obj format, make a map, save your model and map then paint your map in any painting program, then import your *.obj and load your map as a texture.

Lithunwrap is also a very good program.  I find it a bit better than UV mapper classic since it displays your model in realtime.  UV mapper pro does that, but UV mapper pro costs money.

I agree, Lithunwrap is much better than UVmapper.

Just an idea guys;
As there are so many requests for help with texturing on this forum, would it be helpful for someone to post a basic tut or an example?
It would help me out loads, I have no idea how to use UVmapper or Unwrap.
Just a thought guys.
Thanks

MP3D has many great tutorials on this site including texutring/UV mapping tutorials.

They may be a little bit vague though.  If I ever get time I'll be sure to make a tutorial on UV mapping.
