Notice about spammers
« on: January 16, 2010, 08:51:38 am »

Ok, so it's quite obvious we've got a bot attached to our forum that's been spamming the place for about 9-10 hours now. I'm sorry but there's nothing that we moderators can do to stop him. Our privileges come just short of that.

We'll try to keep deleting the topics as they come up. I've already emailed Steve and I'm sure others have as well, so hopefully this situation will be resolved in a timely manner.

Thank you for your patience and thank you for being such great members of the community, and please bear with us here.

Just out of interest; does the forum not have an option to block the IP address of a member ?

It does, but only an administrator (aka Steve) can view and block the IP addresses of a forum member (aka banning).

Moderators can only move, remove, lock, merge, and sticky topics. They can remove or modify other people's posts and can access restricted areas. They have no moderating privileges over the members.

Thanks fo stayin' on top of this, Raxx.  And it all started out quite innocently, too, with a quick "Hello" from Jessica in Slovakia!  Shameful!

Each attacks was comming from a different IP addresses from all over the world.  I think this is one of those viruses that let's other computers take control.  Make sure you keep your virus protection up to date!
