Editing .3ds files for Celestia
« on: December 01, 2009, 05:28:11 pm »

Hello Everyone,

I am an Anim8or (and .3ds file) newbie and am looking to find out how I can use the program to edit a .3ds file. For a spacecraft model in Celestia, I've edited a texture file used by a .3ds file (looking to add logos to the hull of a spacecraft). One side looks great, the other is reversed. Can Anim8or do the editing job? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

No, you can fix it in a UV Mapper, like UV Mapper, or Lithunwrap. Unless you can actually see both sides of the image in the texture, then you can just flip the images in an art package.

You can fix it in Anim8or. Select the face(s) it's reversed on and press the UV button. Then you can flip, scale or move the texture on just those faces.

Hello Dreadkb,

I haven't been able to figure out how one brings the .3ds into Anim8tor. At least I haven't had much luck. All I got was a pure white screen. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

BTW, the specific problem seems to be that Anim8tor can't open any of the texture files associated with the .3ds file. Hence the white screen, I guess.
