my 3d anime guy
« on: November 11, 2009, 04:27:45 am »

im trying something a little bit different. i know its been done before but ive never done it. im not very good at drawing unless im looking at a drawing and freehand copying it. and even then im only decent. but i think if i do this right it will look pretty good. im going to try and do like a hybrid cel shade and real textures in this render. so the guy will b cel shaded but clothes and his surroundings wont be. in my head it looks good but that always changes when i put it on paper. anywho heres when im at now. the head is almost done and i just got a shape for the body.

To me the side of the head seems flat. I don't know if that was intended or not, but it might make your texture look better. It has some wierd water spotss looking areas. Was that intentional with your texture, or is that just the cel shading effect?

well im going to model hair on it. most of the anime characters have that spikey hair so ill cover all that up. as for the texture, i just took the specular off so it wouldnt be reflective. thats not going to be the texture. i plan on painting the uv like they do in the cartoons. im just going to get a bunch of images and find some similarities and then basically copy every1 elses work and mix and match and make it my own. its going to be hard but i think i can do it.

the flat part of the head was intentional. because i want it to have the 2d feel. i tried to use as many straight lines as i could. im not sure how im going to render the final since only this character will have the border around it. ill find that tutorial on how to do the cel shade trick and post a render.

those water spot areas i thought it was just the lighting. but i put it in scene mode and it still shows up. ill have to fiddle around with it because its only on the 1 side. but heres a glace at the cel shadeing trick.

this last 1 is a anime character i found for a reference but i just put that on as a texture to kind of give myself an idea of how this is gonna work. i still think it will work if i do it right.
