Me Too-Steampunk-just for fun
« on: June 06, 2009, 04:29:28 am »

Had few hours to spare.  So, worked on this.  I know, I am not a member of animanon, but I thought I should work on my own concept, just for fun.

I am 100% sure Kreator won't mind it.  Hey buddy?

This is a sort of attack helicopter equivalent of steampunk machine.

I call it "HYDRO RAIDER".

Just an experimental prototype.  Hope to fly it soon.  It is getting fuelled with water and coal at the base.

So, whose side are you on!!!!  HA HA.

Thanks headwax and lizeal.

Here is a progress.

steam is photoshopped for the stills, will be animated for video.

Still working on it.

nice. the textures add a lot of life to it.

is the smoke modeled or photoshoped?

Love the texturing and the backdrop.
IMHO the window texture lets it down.. a little.
Interesting concept

Nice texturing indian8or! The windows could indeed use some work...maybe a bit of reflection....
The background could use some work too. Try a higher res image and apply some DOF blur.

I was having a bit of a time figuring out how this would come out "SteamPunk"ish looking... but the texture work really brought it around.

Very distinctive look, and as the others ask... what was the smoke done with?

Thank you all for your constructive comments.  I really needed them to improve my work.

Lizeal93:  The smoke/steam is photoshopped in the images above, but as i said earlier, it is modelled for the video.

falloffalot:  You are right.  I kind of overlooked the window details.  I will add some reflections and a bit of transparency once i finish modelling the pilots inside.

floyd86:  Good suggestion.  I will try DOF blur for the background and motion blur for the rotor blades.

Arik_the_Red:  Thanks buddy for encouragement.  Actually, these are test renders.  I am planning to post more perfect renders.  Smoke is photoshopped in the above images.

Id make the smoke its own layer, hide everything else, and use it as a texture for a plane in that spot.

GOOD JOB!

my only problem with the last one is that the smoke should be blowing backwards. from the accelleration.

you are partially right lizeal.  I also gave it a thought and my opinion is actually the rotor blades will create a slight vaccum just underneath them and sort of balance the acceleration.  So, the steam/smoke will rise somewhat straight before arching backwards as it is being emitted with considerable force from the exhaust pipes.

I don't follow that well... If the props are forcing air downward to create lift, wouldn't that make the steam press downward, or more likely just scatter it into oblivion because of the intensity?
