Noon Diner
« on: April 25, 2009, 09:51:18 pm »

A long time ago I had a wild idea for doing some things tied in with my favorite Seattle area radio station... I've decided to re-start these... and starting with "The Noon Diner".  Here are the "inspiration images" for doing the exterior:

...and here's the model W.I.P. so far... I wanted to get the windows all sorted, and will begin working out the walls, roof and entrance from this framework...

Once the exterior is done, I'll be going on to work the interior details... something along these lines...

Let the doctor know I have my stool sample ready?  :P

I made ketchup and mustard bottles but can't find them now. Will just have to make them again (no big deal).

Great work so far! I made a model last year called, "Pizza Palace" Modeled after Domino's. I'll show it here when I show this other WIP that I have. (That I'm not revealing yet. Mwhaha)

But yes, I surely would love to eat there! :D
Nice work,

Thanks for the comments... only had a little time so far today, but got the roof and door started... still long long way to go before working inside...

Yeah Geek, I want to see your pizza place... I just don't know if I want to know what your workers do when making the pizzas...

Excellent work Arik, great idea.  Unfortunately we don't really have diners like that Down Under, just crappy little shop fronts with scratched and fading signwriting on the windows and cockroaches on the floor.  Our loss I reckon.

I'll have to model a crappy shop front next!  At least the cockroaches can be found both ways!

Alright... I realized this was taking an entirely too "realistic" shape... the original idea was to be more whimsical, "toon'ish," so I'm scrapping the above work and starting anew. Working from the "end product" outward, meaning putting together the "burger basket meal", and will branch out from that to the whole diner.  So here we go, starting with your bare necessities - ketchup and mustard, and the starting of a food basket! :P

Note, these are fatso-bottles, for extra "gotta squeeze it" effect!

I plan to re-model him myself. Nothing like practice to make for better learning... but so long as you mention it... Here are sketches of a few of the diner characters...

Yes, they are sort of "muppet-ish" as the whole thing is supposed to be whimsical, comical in its style. I've lost the original sketches, so the waitress doesn't show her later drawing with blue skin, purple hair, and outfit having orange-and-yellow striping.

Soda for the diner... I decided to go with the era when soda bottles were served more than "in the cup" style...

That bottle shot is without anti-aliasing... I had put up better shots at this thread on "how to make glass?"  http://www.anim8or.com/smf/index.php?topic=2191.0

Anyway, am a bit unsure whether the glass looks too thick or not, since old coke bottles were pretty thick.

Thanks for the C&C by the way, I appreciate all of that sort of thing.

Since this diner is going to be with a "Classic Rock" theme... here's one of the bar-stools... still working on the details of texture, etc... but, "drum-roll, please!"

If it's not obvious... it's supposed to look like a snare-drum... (except for the padded seat)
