Trying to "FLY"
« on: March 07, 2009, 08:55:20 pm »

My new project is one more time anything with wings but not a plane.
Has anybody else projects with insects to post here?
I'd like to see how other users makes this...
Thank you.

Nice! Great idea of having a low smooth angle to show the fly's eyes.
Only 1 crit, the wings seem a bit thick.

Wow youre really learning fast, Tof!
Maybe a nice suggestion for the wings woul be to make them 1 poly thick and use a transparency map to show the veins some more

Poor fly, he's pinned down ;)

Cant wait to see what youll be making in a few months from now if you keep improving like  that ^,^

cool effect for the eyes by reducing the smooth angle.

by the way is that a pin gutting it?

other than the wings thickness, great model. keep it up.

You are definitely learning very fast!  That's wonderful to see.
The wings could definitely use a transparency map and be a bit thinner.  Then you could give his body a nice texture to compliment the whole scene there (perhaps some texture for the floor as well.)
Once again, great job, especially for someone just starting

Hey,
Yes, this poor fly is pinned down!
Thank you for your positiv criticism and your ideas...
I tryed to give it a better material and new wings. I think it seems now a little better but it is not yet what i want.
But for now, it is enough (later, I'll certainly learn more about "Fly anotomy", model it again and try to give it super cool texture to make a almost realistic fly).
Has anybody else 3d insect pictures to show?

Yah, what headwax said... as for the comment on wings being thick, the front rim would be thicker because that is the main support of the wing, with the extremely thing membranes expanding back, framed by the thicker "veins" sort of like stained-glass window-work.

I was just sort of wondering at what would be involved in making the eye-lenses more round... just to give the brain a headache and thinking of such a nasty task ;)

I like the green fly color!

Hey, I am back after a long time without modeling (a lot of work...), just having time to take a look to your nice works (and challenges, I have plan to take part to one!).
Here is a preview of my new try to "Fly", exploring new ways for texturing.
Modeling in anim8or, UV Mapping in Lithunwrap, some texture to put in the UV Map rendered in Anim8or, other painted in Artweaver, Wings out a picture and final render in Anim8or.
I think I have now to make my UV Map better and, as Headwax says, make hairy legs, but I am already happy with this new step in learning 3d.

Very nice! Thats better than i might have accomplished.. There should be a crease on the legs, where they meet the body. I also like the dual-proboscis complex you cot goin on the face. And the hairs really made it well......  To put it in perspective, i cant put it in perspective.
