 :o nice!! you sure that's your first?  that's a pretty nice model, the handle is a bit...square though, i like the blade, the way you've modeled the front of the sword further forward than the middle (i don't even know what i'm talking about) makes it look sharper, well done

KMLT:  To get a nicer render, try checking the 'antialiased' box in the popup window after you press "render>render image..."

yes.. first modeled sword where i modeled point to point..
before I've just used a cylinder and some cubes..

Yes, something like that.  But what you'd want to add next is a transmap that would make the hair on the edges look like hair instead of a solid edge.  So that there are a few gaps where hair is sticking out.
how exactly would i do this.if this is an easily answered Q soorry.

Following this tutorial should give you a good idea of transmaps.  It also teaches some tricks for boolean subtractions.

My museum is coming along fine, amongst other things there are dancing roman coins   ;)
This is the latest addition, a frosted glass urn with engraving.

I've noticed that too but I don't know why.
However, you can resize them in object mode until they fit your figure.
