My first model: It's a book.
« on: December 05, 2008, 06:19:18 pm »

Here's my first real creation in Anim8or. I did go through as many tutorials as I could find so you could say that this is not my *first* model. But it's the first one that I built by myself and for a specific purpose (not just to play around). I needed a book to tell a story in a movie that I made for my wife's birthday. (If you want to see the movie's intro, go here: http://www.birdnest.org/bruneaup1/book_movie.wmv.)

Once I had figured out the textures, my book looked realistic enough to start building a scene. Actually, the lighting and the camera movements were my two biggest headaches. Building the model was easy in comparison.

I just wanted to share. :)

I agree, and awesome scene setup, a music box sorta tune would've gone well with that.

The texture looks great, I like the "the end" very much on the page

Thanks for the kind words!

I am really bad at textures... In fact I have been trying to make space ships for a while, but I can't make satisfactory textures.

I made progress when I realized that making textures for real everyday objects is much easier. I took pictures of books and tweaked them in PhotoShop. The colors were right from the start. I made a bump map by converting parts of the texture to greyscale and then boosting the contrast. I'm just happy it turned out the way it did!

The page in the movie is a separate object with 2 morph targets. One on the right and one on the left. Flipping the page is done by going from right to nothing to left.

I got the table from a free download off of the Internet. Nothing fancy...
