Creating a shirt/jacket.
« on: January 21, 2008, 01:50:36 pm »

I am building a character but the character has a shirt... and I really cant think of how to model this whatsoever. I have used makehuman to create the figure but thereafter I am stuck.

Does anyone have any idea how to creat a shirt like here: http://static.tramdock.com/images/items/medium/QKS1154/ABL.jpg

Or, does anyone have a free download of one that is fairly similar?

Over the top of the shirt will be a long jacket/coat thing, a leather one, because those are cool, but equally I dont know how I would model the torso/arm bit.

Any help/downloads for either?

I'm not a noob at anim8or, but some models just really confuse me when I try to build them.

Cheers

How I'd go about modeling it is to first select the faces on the human where you want the shirt.  Press "shift+d" to detach the faces.  Then select the new mesh, copy it, then undo the detaching of faces.  You can then past the object in, and resize it how you want it on the figure.  Then I'd tweak the mesh to be a bit less form-fitting, and add things such as the collar.

I chose to just plain and simply plane model it. I made an extremely thin cuboid and then just point edited it so that the points are just not quite going through the body (so it fits to the model) and subdivided it... Here is the character so far:

I am just trying to make the leather in the jacket show up a bit better... the skin is an image from google which has been tiled a plenty... so is the purple shirt. 98seconds to render with raytraced shadows. Man, volume is so much quicker but still has a few kinks that need sorted :(

Hope you like it so far. About 5mb for the character and I still need a bomb of scenery to do... and the figure. yikes.

It looks like you just need to lighten up the texture for the leather jacket.  Remember pure black won't show up, and close too it won't show up much either.  You want a gray for the leather, and give it an ambient value of '0' and diffuse of '1'.

I'm not sure about the effectiveness of this, because i haven't tried it.. But here's my contribution!

You could begin with a square (30x40x10) and subdivide it.
Go to "Left" view and select faces in shot (not faces out of shot) and delete them..
Then, Use you imagination and i'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult
