97c Bugs
« on: September 11, 2008, 07:59:43 pm »

I am was having problems with 'extrude path'

I closed the program and restarted it and it seems to work now.

It would extrude the path but everything was flat and not 3D. Tried it different ways and nothing changed.

Seems to be fine, but if it happens again I will do a print screen for you to see.

Remember, this has only happened once and haven't had any problems again.

This is not a bug nor anything new to v0.97c.  Extrude along a path always extrudes the shape in it's local Z direction.  If you add a hexagon in the front view then it's z axis will extend the way that the hexagon is facing.  If you add it in the top view then the z axis will extend out in the plane of the hehagon which will cause yuor extrusion along a path to not do what you want.

Switch to wire frame mode and select your hexagon.  The blue arrow on the pivot is it's axis.  You can rotate the pivot to face out in the pivot edit mode.

I remember this when it came out, and originally thought it to be a bug as well. I'm sure it won't be the last time it is brought up.

I think it would be nice if you could have extrude to path work in all directions. ( though probably easier said than implimented )

Not sure what part of the program you are working on next. tools?

I don't quite know what you mean by all directions.  Extrude path always extrudes in the Z axis of the shape that it's extruded.  Do you mean that you want it to guess which axis to use?  To try and figure out what direction that the shape is facing (which can be ambiguous)?  To allow the user to sellect which pivot axis to use?  All of these seems that it will have the same kind of problems for people who don't understand how it's supposed to work.

Sorry, just tried what I was thinking about and it works fine.
axis independent for when you are using curved lines.

I closed anim8or and did the exact same thing but had no problems. It only did it once and I am aware of extruding in wrong direction and getting the wrong results.

Without closing the program I loaded an older file and tried it in that file and things worked get. Then I closed it and went back to the file I was using and it still had the problem. So then I just closed the entire program and restarted and haven't had the problem since.

Don't ask me why or how, but it just happened one time.
