What does the global lighting tool exactly do? I didn't had the time to really find out what it does.

That file isn't the same anymore. I'm always trying new things.

The spheres that give off light - Just make them in object mode

What ever color you want
Ambient - .3
diffuse - .7
Specular - 3 (not .3)
Emissive - 1 (This is only useful if you don't use attributes; and don't forget to set to same color as Diffuse)
Rough - 1000
Brilliance - 1
Trans - .2
Attributes - Class - Dielectric
                   IOR - 1.04

In the scene mode make the lights the same color as the sphere and move them inside the sphere - Set the lights to Local(without shadows turned on in advanced setting)

Lighting - Global Intensity - 3
                Ambient Intensity - 0

The object in the center has a spot light over it with shadows turn on in the advanced settings.

Basicly it gives you control of all the lights overall intensity. It's O.K..... but I think there might be a better way. Think I'll jab at Steven ;)
