putting a round hole in the side of a square mesh

Is there an easy way to put a hole in the side of a square mesh?  I finally just created a cylinder that crosses the plane of the square.  The problem is I can't see through the cylinder because I see the side of the square mesh.

What you're asking for is referred to as a type of boolean operation, which Anim8or doesn't currently directly support.  There are work-arounds, however.  This thread on the old .com forum may be of some help:

http://www.anim8or.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/015512.html , which references the boolean tool Leslie added to Terranim8or.
